So Jan 6th we had a Votech student post a build they are working on in class, a 07 ranger with a 02 5.3, and th400 planned as the power plant, he posted photos of a carb intake and what looked to me like a quadrajet on top, with the promise to show more photos of the project.
My first reaction was, holy shit this is awesome, and i know that these things are usually budgeted pretty tight and they work with what they have or what people will give them.
in my first post i said please let me know if i can offer any advice at all on the program or if they needed any help, i said if you throw the carb away ill donate dyno time to the school so they can learn more about a project like this, and man it would be cool if we can help them go turbocharger right away (since most of sloppy is all about throwing turbos on junkyard LS motors)
immediately members started saying post what you need and we will try to get you parts!
then i learned they were farther away than would make that a practical reality east PA vs Michigan (probably 14 hours away)
He said he would be showing the teacher some sloppy mechanics videos and tell him we are interested in helping. first i thought ill try to get them everything i can, then i thought, well i better ask and make sure this is OK haha, we got the teachers information and overwhelmed by it all said we can send anything to support the students and the program.
Before i could even ask him my friend Viren (of VSracing) steps up and said he will start looking around immediately for turbo V8 parts and other things he can ship them for the car for free, I said i would contact Mike & Mike @ efi source and see if they would chip in or discount an ECU and wiring harness to control the turbo LS motor for the drag car.
Mike said absolutely he will donate ecu, wiring harness, and sensors towards the project at no cost! he asked where they were located because he wanted to show up and do it in person! also finding out they were in Michigan makes this difficult haha.
Either way we have people stepping up who work at parts stores to send fuel pumps, and more.
pretty soon they'll have everything they need, and they didn't have to spend any money at all.
whatever else they might need we will raise the money to pay for it and ship it their way i am sure of it.
as always i am amazed at my group's willingness to help out in these situations.
looking forward to updates in videos and pictures of the truck and how it turns out.
ill be posting updates when i can, and linking the videos they put up, also talking more with the teacher soon
This is awesome to see I wish more people would do this.
